There are no “experts”
Prepare a district level plan
Individualize plan for your
school
Principal must be involved in
development
CONTROL of CRISIS
Someone call “911”
Demonstrate control
Remain composed
Police, Custodian or
Maintenance man?
VICTIMS
Focus on protecting lives and assisting injured
Assign a first aid team
Provide CPR trained staff
Develop a crisis kit: painter’s mask, gloves,
flashlight, schematic drawing of the campus
buildings, list of enrolled students and contact
numbers, old cell phones (charged), first aid kit
Store blankets
Student ID’s
Send teacher to hospital with injured
LOCKDOWN
Lock all classroom and outside doors
Assign someone to stay at the main
entrance
Make sure all students are in classroom
Don’t use code names
Utilize intercom
Check hallways and restrooms

PARENTS
