David “Davy” Crockett
David “Davy” Crockett was born on
August 17,1786 in what is now Greene
County, Tennessee.
During the years 1798 to 1802, Davy
Crockett works driving cattle in the state of
Virginia.
Education of Davy Crockett
Davy Crockett worked at a young age, and
his education amounted to about 100 days
of study.
He did not learn to read and write until the
age of 18.
The Years 1806-1815
In 1806, Davy marries Polly “Whirlwind”
Finley. She later dies after the birth of their
second child.
After Polly’s death, he marries a widow
named Elizabeth Patton.
Early War and Political Years
Scout under General Jackson in the War of
1812.
Commander of a battalion
in the Creek Indian War.
Served in the state legislature
at the age of 35.
Elected to Congress in 1826.
The Alamo
In 1835, Davy sets out for Texas.
In 1836, Davy battles for the independence
of Texas.
In March, 1836, Davy Crockett, along with
139 others, dies at the Battle of the Alamo.
