    After the advent of Web 2 0 social media has used the power of Internet to the fullest and various sites have come up which have simplified how information is shared amongst people Some of these sites are Facebook MySpace Twitter Orkut and Wikipedia These sites have enabled various companies to target consumers across geographies and segments The blending of technology with information spreading has overcome barriers such as language and distances Though Social Media is in its nascent stage its influence on everyone can be widely seen

    Due to its wide reach and self multiplying nature marketing through social media has become one of the intrinsic marketing strategies of most organisations Integrated marketing communications coordinates the elements of the promotional mix advertising personal selling public relations publicity direct marketing and sales promotion to produce a customer focused message
    One of the unique qualities of marketing through social media is the ability to see customer response in a very short time Key factors that ensure its success are its relevance to the customer the value it provides them with and the strength of the foundation on which it is built Thus social media has become the new tool for effective business marketing and sales
    Scope for Social media marketing in Indian scenario
    Indian consumers are responding fast to the growing e commerce options available Alongside this there s an ever increasing craze for social networking These factors have developed a huge interest in advertising through social media amongst various organizations Indian organizations from diverse sectors are waiting to exploit this opportunity Some of these industries are Consumer Electronics Cosmetics Film Industry Educational Institutions Matrimonial Sites and Automobiles etc
    Our project aims to study the impact so far of marketing through social media on Indian consumers Also through this project we aim to study the future scope of this new marketing trend
    Methodology
    We intend to conduct market surveys of people who use internet and are likely to access social networking sites and are prone to other social media We plan to conduct some experiments on a few social networking sites to observe real time response to some ad campaigns
    The collected data will be analysed to determine the influence of marketing through Social Media on Indian Internet users
